The guy at the gym

So there’s this guy I’ve been crushing on at the gym. He’s a bit tall (maybe 5′9″), moreno, and with a good homely face. He’s not as ripped as the other guys I’ve seen in that gym but he looks oh so fine and at least has a nice enough body.

I always notice whenever he enters the gym and I always keep stealing glances as him as he goes through his workout. I didn’t think that he’s PLU since I have never seen him glance back for more than a moment and I never caught him staring at other guys in the gym. He just kept to himself as he does his reps and sets.

Well imagine my surprise when I saw him enter the gym one night wearing a black shirt with the Government club logo at the back! (At that time, Government had already closed). I was a bit shocked since if he were PLU, he was hiding it pretty good and then he shows up wearing a gay club shirt! Is he really PLU? Maybe he’s a former employee, but then, why would he go to this gym? Or maybe he doesn’t know the significance of the logo? Nah. It’s very unlikely that he does not know what the logo means. So he must know that the logo is and made a deliberate choice to wear it. Or he grabbed some black shirt from the closet and didn’t realize that it had the G logo at the back? In any case, that shirt proves that he’s indeed PLU or at least gay-friendly.

Being the really shy guy that I am, I never acted on this discovery. If you were in my shoes, what would you do?

Well Mr.DMB, I wouldn't assume that he's PLU. maybe somebody gave him that shirt or he bought it somehow where Government is just a cool word and logo to be placed at the back. But maybe you should trust your instinct, maybe ask yourself if you want to know him more because of the goverment logo on his polo or is it because your interested what's on the back of his mind?

I'd break the ice when I see him at the gym again.

ah interesting...why not take the chance of doing sets with him, and asked him about the shirt he is wearing, or perhaps asked him where Henry is? as a start-up (the owner of Gov), m sure he would gladly respond to you? he he, sometimes take a little step will not cause any harm. . .

sir, you should approach him but dont expect anything romantic. just make friends or just try to start a conversation.
here's my suggestion how to start a conversation at the gym:

#1 mag-pretend na gagamitin mo run yung same machine/equipment na ginagamit nia.
example: pre, ilang sets ka pa? pede pa alternate?

#2 sa gym kasi namin merong sariling water dispenser... pag kukuha xa ng tubig, maki sabay ka rin kumuha tapos pag tumingin xa sayo, makipag ngitian ka lang.

#3whenever you crossed with each other sa hallway or sa locker room, pakipag tanguan(nod) ka kapag nagkasalubong kau hanggang sa pede mo xa kausapin.

sana makatulong. :)

Government shirt aside (I had straight friends who went there for their gay friend's events. Government crowd was more mixed at times than people cared to note)... just say hi to him. People don't get mauled over or hit on the head for saying hi.

People these days forget that a conversation starts with a simple hi and a warm smile....

@McVie, inisip ko iyon pero parang malabong nagbabayad siya ng mahal na membership fee kung ganoon.

@Anon, hmmm, food for thought..

@Carrie, if only I were as forward, no?

@taurus top, but I'm really shy. Hehe

@Ming Meows, oo nga, pero puwede out of the blue ngayon at para hindi niya maconnect sa shirt. Hehehe

@Dhon, would you?

@Jerry, hehehe, sounds the the usual pick-up lines, huh? :-P

@Tony, one problem I see is, other people will notice and I don't want to catch too much attention which might embarrass the guy

Anyway, people, I haven't seen him at the gym lately. But I'll keep the suggestions in mind, if ever. Thanks! :-)

I always believe in the tagalog saying na "MASUBUKAN, WALA NAMANG MAWAWALA" instead na manghinayang. Ang teknik ko if I want to open a conversation with a guy, concentrate ako na ipunin ang lakas ng loob then follows the execution. Ano man mangyari, at least I've tried, who knows nag-aantay lang pala siya at siya din yung tipong "waiting".

Dapat ang ginawa mo nung nakita mo yung T-shirt, nag-dialogue ka ng "Lam mo, I also have that kind of shirt you're wearing which I got from that bar somewhere in Makati, are you familiar with that bar?" ganun dapat ang entrada. Well sana lang isuot niya ulit. Or pag nakita mo siya uli, di balikan mo yung nakaraan reminding him of his G shirt,whew. bahala na si Batman, sabi nga para-paraan lang yan.

Vince,

If you are working out in Fitness First then the guy is possibly one of the waiters in Government before.
Just don't ask me why he works out there. :-P
